Description
The three-statement financial model forms the foundation on which many other models and analyses are built, and constructing a three-statement model is a critical skill for many roles in accounting and finance. In this course, we will cover the most common errors and issues that cause a three-statement model to be out of balance. We’ll show how to correctly find and fix these issues using error-checking best practices. We’ll also build some common error checks that can be used to quickly diagnose issues.

Duncan Mckeen is an effective communicator with extensive experience teaching financial modeling, accounting, analysis, and valuation. Since 2014, Duncan has been focused on designing courses and teaching financial modeling to employees working in accounting, valuation, investment banking, equity research, and private equity. He also has extensive experience providing consulting services on financial modeling to large corporations and institutions. Prior to transitioning over to teaching, Duncan held senior equity research positions with top banks & brokerages using financial models to form opinions and guide institutional investors with capital allocation. Since 2015, he has also been an Adjunct Faculty member teaching financial modeling courses at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University.
Jeff Schmidt taught financial modeling and valuation to thousands of students all over the world for over a decade prior to joining CFI. Clients included some of the world’s largest corporations and financial institutions, as well as many of the most prestigious universities in the world. He also advised clients on modeling best practices, model rebuilds, and streamlining large spreadsheets. Before his career in financial education, Jeff covered approximately 50 companies with a combined market cap of $500 billion during his career in equity research. He also worked in corporate development leading M&A due diligence and financial planning & analysis, as well as working in investment banking and restructuring.
