Description
This course begins with an overview of property, plant and equipment, goodwill, intangibles, and impairment and asset retirement obligations. Then, participants will explore key areas of recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure related to these topics through practical examples and real‑life scenarios. The course supports a deeper understanding of how ASPE guidance applies in practice and strengthens participants’ ability to interpret and apply the standards effectively.
Topics include:
- Core ASPE concepts such as:
- Determination of costs to initially capitalize and those that qualify to be capitalized subsequent to initial recognition for property, plant and equipment, goodwill and intangible assets.
- Determination of when and the amount to be amortized for property, plant and equipment, and intangible assets.
- Determination of when asset retirement obligations should be recognized.
- Determine options to account for cloud computing arrangements.
- Key disclosure areas for property, plant and equipment, goodwill, intangible assets, impairment, asset retirement obligations and cloud computing arrangements.
- Overview of foundational topics, impairment of goodwill and long-lived assets, interest capitalization and asset retirement obligations.
- Illustrative examples, exercises, and sample disclosures that reinforce participants’ understanding of the practical application of ASPE related to property, plant and equipment, goodwill, intangible assets, impairment and asset retirement obligations.
