Description
The Public Sector Accounting Board has, and is in the process of, amending a number of standards which will have a significant impact on financial statements prepared in accordance with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). Some of these changes will be mandatory starting in fiscal years starting on or after April 1, 2026; in addition, approved changes:
- Will be required to be applied on a retrospective basis, with restatement of comparative figures; and,
- Can be early adopted by public sector entities.
This course will discuss the following significant new and emerging concepts:
- The Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting in the Public Sector
- Financial statements presentation (PSAS Section 1202, replacing Section 1201)
- Exposure Draft – Employment Benefits
- Exposure Draft – Intangible Assets; and,
- Exposure Draft – Government not-for-profit standards – Capital Assets
