This one-hour Lunch & Learn session for CPA program leaders in public accounting firms and other sectors, will explore practical strategies for managers to better support and develop early-career professionals, particularly CPA students entering the workplace. Drawing on insights from recent employer focus groups and global management research, the session will highlight recurring challenges around professionalism, communication, and values alignment that managers commonly encounter.
Employers across sectors, including the Big Four, report consistent challenges with early-career hires, including:
- Missed deadlines not being communicated
- Avoidance of face-to-face interactions in favour of emails
- Poor time management and professional presentation
- Gaps in understanding and applying business values
- Low motivation or self-direction, especially among top-tier graduates
