Description
This seminar will examine board practices and leadership strategies that foster a more effective and engaged Board of Directors. While many organizations have boards appointed by stakeholders to represent collective or specific interests, a common challenge lies in transforming the board from a perceived cost center into a strategic asset. A high-performing Board of Directors can serve as a powerful source of competitive advantage, helping organizations distinguish themselves in their respective sectors.
Explore four key co-operative board leadership roles shared between executives and directors that drive governance excellence. These roles are designed to address common challenges and misconceptions such as the belief among some executives that boards are merely a formality or an obstacle in the decision-making process. Understand the difficulties faced by directors who may be disengaged from the organization’s strategic direction whether due to uncertainty about their role or a lack of clarity on how to exercise their authority effectively within a peer-based governance structure.
We’ll also explore how the four leadership roles apply to two key board responsibilities: strategic management and risk oversight. These areas reveal how management can better engage directors and how directors can contribute meaningfully while fulfilling their fiduciary duties. The course content is relevant to all boards from grassroots community organizations to large public companies.
