This session is ideal for CPAO members who work for, or sit on the boards of, nonprofit organizations that generate revenue through charitable fundraising activities such as direct mail, events, major gifts and planned giving. In this session we will focus on the fundamental principles and practices of modern charitable fundraising practice. We will explore current trends in fundraising practice. We will introduce all the major fundraising tools, including their pros and cons. Finally, we will discuss how to combine these fundraising tools into a comprehensive fundraising program.

- Current trends in fundraising and how they impact fundraising practice
- Fundraising ethics
- Fundamental fundraising principles
- The most common forms of fundraising, including direct marketing, events, grant writing, major gifts, and planned giving
- How to structure fundraising programs that generate results and maximize return on investment
- Common issues faced by fundraisers and organizations engaged in charitable fundraising

Mikhael Bornstein Having worked in the arts, health, social service, and education sectors, Mikhael Bornstein has more than twenty years of experience as a professional fundraiser. Throughout his career he has been involved in all areas of fundraising but has developed special expertise in gift planning and direct marketing. Mikhael is a frequent speaker at conferences across North America, including the AFP International Conference in Boston. He has also coauthored an article in CASE's Currents magazine. Mikhael is currently teaching at George Brown College and is completing a Master in Arts in Leadership at Royal Roads University.
