Description
The Public Accounting Oversight Board recently reported that approximately 40% of audits will have deficiencies in 2024. The Canadian Public Accountability Board recently reported that approximately 25% of their reviews had significant findings. In spite of the regulatory changes that have been made, it appears that there is still work to be done in maintaining the integrity of financial audits. This seminar will discuss the extent to which the root cause of many audit deficiencies reflects ethical rather than technical issues. There will be an overview of the “three C’s” (conflicts of interest, competition, consulting) using current case studies, with consideration of what changes might improve professional ethics and public audits in the future.

Who Will Benefit
This course will be of general interest for all CPAs but of specific interest for those who work in or with larger public accounting firms.
There has been a documented deterioration in the integrity of public audits. Ethical issues have contributed to this deterioration. CPAs should be aware of these ethical issues and develop strategies to mitigate these ethical risks, in order to improve the integrity of public audits in the future.
